The star has given the full amount of his £25,000 award cash to the trust for venues, which works to protect the United Kingdom's grassroots concert spaces.

Fender was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his third album the album was declared the best record of the past year.

The musician has chosen to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function small stages fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I personally wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was starting out," remarked Sam Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these venues have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket prices, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, raising over £100k on his live tour to help 38 small stages across the UK.

The money assisted venues that were dealing with possible closure due to issues arising from floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues obtained funding support in upgrading amenities and gear that positively impacted performers and fans.

"The concept that funds from performances in large arenas supports the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his honor winnings to charitable organizations.

When Pulp earned the award in the year 1996 for their release Different Class, frontman the singer announced that the band would give their prize money to the non-profit the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist split her award among multiple charities, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," she told outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the youth organization that developed their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally winners that year the group gave their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was found to have the illness.

"Winning was ample," said vocalist Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the cake. So our winning touched somebody else's life."

Recently, the MVT revealed it had saved two local spots in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in Southampton and The Croft in that location were purchased under the community ownership scheme, which is supported by Arts Council England and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the properties.
